Go F*ck Yourself YouTube

If you thought you're attention was already short, YouTube is trying to make it even shorter.

Here is YouTube's new "mini-player". Which really should be called "F*ck Your Attention Span, Let's Make Money Mode".

Here's what happens when you press that button:

(Stop judging my recommendations ok!)

What's the big deal

This might not seem like that bad of a thing. You could argue that it's making it easier for people to listen to music while finding other videos.

But take a step back and have a look at what this is really meaning.

Attention spans

If you spend any amount of time on the internet of using your mobile phone, then chances are your attention span already sucks. You've lost the ability to concentrate on anything for more than a few seconds, get bored quickly, and likely attempt to multitask everything you do.

Firstly, you're not actually multitasking. Studies show that people who try to multitask on the web are actually a lot worse at retaining information and keeping concentration.

This feature isn't alone. Every single internet product is trying to make itself as addictive as possible and play of your short attention span.

Why are they doing this?

A Million Dollar View(s)

This conveniently seems like an easy way to boost YouTube views.

Normally if you are searching for a video to watch, YouTube isn't getting a view during that time. You could think of it as "dead time" for revenue.

So this change means that there is no "gap" between finishing watching a video and starting the next. No dead time.

So in reality, what this mini-player is doing is making you a more efficient YouTube consumer. And if you've read anything on capitalism, you will know that efficiency is everything, it's literally money.
